Butterfly necklaces are fearlessly feminine

When Carrie Bradshaw from SATC wears something, it has the trend power to spread across continents and remain in the public consciousness for years afterwards.

Filigree Butterfly Necklace by PepperPink

The giant butterfly necklace she wears is one such trend, taking quirky statement jewellery to another level. Ever since Bradshaw’s debut of that particular butterfly necklace, butterfly jewellery has remained a fashion stalwart. Every girl should have a cute butterfly necklace on stand by to add a dash of personality to any outfit!

In recent years the oversized statement necklace has dropped out of fashion but the butterfly motif remains strong. Another New York fashionista (and muse to Karl Lagerfeld) Blake Lively is regularly spotted out and about town with a delicate butterfly gleaming against tanned skin.

Blake Lively favours a butterfly necklace

However, note the difference between the huge butterfly favoured by Bradshaw several years ago, and the small trinket butterflies Lively wears today. Jewellery in general has got smaller and more subtle epitomised by this filigree butterfly necklace. Delicate and subtle, this necklace is a natural partner for spring florals and summer dresses. Or why not try mixing things up a bit and wearing it with an edgy leather biker jacket and skinny jeans?

Diamond Butterfly Necklace by PepperPink

Diamonds will make your necklace that little bit more special – ideal for a day at the races, or to complete that perfect wedding ensemble. This Yellow and White Gold Diamond butterfly necklace hits all the right notes and will take you easily from day to night for any occasion.

Butterfly necklaces are not just for summer… Wear yours in the winter as well for a lovely happy injection of sunshine into your outfit. The perfect go-to piece that will add a sartorial smile to a simple shift dress or give a distinct femininity to an androgynous work suit!

Dare to be different with brown diamonds

Brown diamonds have traditionally been sidelined in favour of their white counterparts in jewellery. However, of late they have become a fashionable alternative to white diamonds and their blingtastic stigma. The rise of the brown diamond has been cemented with celebrities from Hayden Panetierre to Serena Williams being spotted out and about wearing them.

Rose Gold, Brown Diamonds

Rose Gold and Brown Diamond Disco MMX Ring by PepperPink

The influx of celebrity endorsements has brought brown diamonds firmly back under the fashion spotlight and with good reason! Brown diamonds are less showy than their white diamond sibling and so more multi-purpose. You could just as easily wear your brown diamonds with a casual day dress as a full-on ball gown. These brown diamond earrings are the perfect balance of pared down luxe that will easily take you through from day to night.

Rose gold is an unusual – but surprisingly natural – partner for brown diamonds. The rose tint beautifully highlights the rich, natural earth tones of the brown diamonds to striking effect. This MMX disco ring is unusual in both design and materials and the result is a show-stopping piece that will steal envious glances wherever you choose to wear it.

For the fashion maverick who thrives on standing out from the crowd, these Art Deco inspired earrings are the perfect choice. Their unique, modernist shape is created with an eclectic mix of gemstones. However, there is clear method in the apparent madness! The

contrasting blue topaz cuts through the softness of the white and brown diamonds for a finely balanced piece. These earrings are all about clean lines and colour.

So brown diamonds really can be adapted to suit any style or taste. Now you’ve chosen your brown diamond jewellery, all that is left is to plan is some killer outfits!

The future is bright, white gold

White gold is one of our favourite jewellery metals here at PepperPink. Gold is such a beautiful metal and more durable when alloyed. All our white gold is a mixture of gold and palladium for a truly white gleam.

White Gold Diamond Solitaire Ring by PepperPink

The most common use of white gold is of course with diamonds for an eye-catching engagement ring. However, if you’re not hearing wedding bells just yet, it doesn’t mean you should rule out diamonds and white gold altogether.

Diamonds set in white gold are such a beautiful combination that everyone should enjoy them! To avoid verging into engagement ring territory, just avoid purely white diamonds. Adding different coloured diamonds into the mix is a clear indication that this is not a diamond ring in the matrimonial sense. This solitaire ring features a large black diamond surrounded with smaller white diamonds for a classically monochrome look.

Although diamonds and white gold are natural bedfellows, other precious stones can positively gleam when surrounded with white gold. This sapphire half eternity ring is an unusual colour combination and a striking design. This is a fashion forward statement that stands out from the crowd so wallflowers need not apply!

If you just love the timeless combination of white diamonds and white gold, then there is a very simple solution – look at other types of jewellery such as earrings. There are clearly no connotations where earrings are concerned!

White Gold Diamond and Pavee Earrings by PepperPink

With these white gold earrings, we have re-worked the tradition of pavee diamonds in a thoroughly modern way. The main feature is actually a pearl, with the pavee diamonds clasping the pearl in a delicately feminine way. So, by taking two perennial classics – pavee diamonds and pearl earrings – the result is a truly unique piece of jewellery. You won’t see earrings like these on any one else.

White gold is subtle and doesn’t have all the shouting power of yellow gold. Despite this, it remains constantly popular, whereas yellow gold dramatically peaks and troughs in popularity.

You might bring your favourite yellow gold out of the jewellery pouch every couple of years and wear it religiously for a season. On the other hand, you will wear your white gold jewellery year after year, as a flattering go-to piece for jazzing up a cocktail dress. White gold makes paler skin look beautifully translucent rather than ghostly. Which is useful considering the British weather!

Black diamonds are forever!

Sometimes trends in fashion and jewellery have such an overarching effect on how we dress that only the most vague terms can describe them. ‘Minimalism’ is one such trend, a reference to the general ‘paring down’ of everything. With this trend detail is – well, minimal – and a clean, sharp silhouette takes centre stage.

PepperPink, Black Diamond Ring

18ct White Gold Black Diamond Pavee Ring by PepperPink

Black diamonds are the jewellery world’s equivalent of a sharply belted smock tunic or a shift dress. As such, they are the perfect complement to the minimalist trend. Black as a colour choice provides a blank canvas, which happily takes a back seat to a striking silhouette. At the same time the diamonds add a welcome touch of femininity to an otherwise androgynous look.

Black diamonds are a chic way to do luxe, a deliberate move away from the eye-blindingly bright bling worthy of a music video. This pave style black diamond ring is the epitome of pared down luxe. It is an extravagant piece that displays quality without shouting from the rooftops about it’s worth.

Black diamonds seem to work so well for this trend because minimalism and monochrome are natural bedfellows. With this in mind, black diamonds often work well in combination with white diamonds. This black diamond arrow necklace is a striking example of how the two stones complement each other for an almost bespoke statement. If you are shy of catwalk-esque head to toe minimalism, a necklace like this is a great way to add personality to a simple outfit. A basic white T-Shirt would show this black diamond necklace off to its full potential.

Black Diamond, PepperPink, Yellow Gold, Ring

Black Diamond and Yellow Gold Disco Ring by PepperPink

It may seem natural that black diamonds should be set in a light toned metal such as white gold. However, yellow gold and black diamonds makes a surprising (and striking) partnership. This black diamond ring would jazz up a black shift dress perfectly, taking you all the way from work to Friday night drinks. Also, the warm tones of the gold will brighten up a paler complexion.

Black diamonds are the perfect choice for an outfit that looks pulled together but not too try-hard – the holy grail of the fashion world.

Stacking Rings: Rack up the fashion points

Stacking Rings have become a favourite trend for celebrities both on the red carpet and for the ‘off-duty’ look. This is because the style is so adaptable – you stack your rings to express your personality or to fit the mood of an event. By stacking your rings you need never wear the same look twice!

Black and White Diamond Heart Cluster Ring by PepperPink

If you’re finding S/S 11 trends a bit intimidating (take neon brights or giant stripes as case-in-point) changing your jewellery is a simpler way to look current. Trends in jewellery are less disposable and endure for years. A signature piece of jewellery is more justifiable than having this year’s ‘It Bag’ as it won’t date as quickly. So there is no need to hide the evidence from disapproving partners – this purchase makes economical sense!

Choose from knuckle-dusting cocktail rings to thin, simple bands and arrange them according to your own taste. Piling on lots of similar, delicate bands is a subtle, elegant look that will tone down a more outlandish outfit. This white gold stacking ring, black diamond ring and this heart cluster ring made of black and white diamonds provide the perfect combination for a co-ordinated stack. Kate Husdon with her laid-back look harking back to the glamourous side of the seventies, achieves the perfect mix-and-match stack. Her Stacking Rings are all different shapes and sizes but there is a common pale gold theme. This a chic way to mix up your rings, showing both style and individuality.

Ashley Olsen takes Stacking Rings to a new level

Purveyors of Hollywood boho-glam the Olsen twins are never ones to play a trend down.  Mary-Kate and Ashley often take several huge statement rings and wear them all together. These fashion-forward ladies even move away from the ‘conventional’ method of stacking rings – as in all up one finger. They stack their fingers horizontally as well as vertically, wearing rings across all of their fingers for an armour-like effect. This way of stacking your rings is not for the faint-hearted but makes a powerful statement.

Another way to approach the stacking ring trend is with the same sentimentality of the charm bracelet. Taking a classic, treasured cocktail ring as the centrepiece and layering it with new complementary additions is a canny fashion move. For example if you already have an emerald set in yellow gold you might stack this with several simple yellow gold bands of varying textures like this plain wavy ring and this circle ring. This is a great way to take a well-loved, traditional piece and bring it right into the 21st century.

Whatever your style or personality, there is a set of stacking rings to suit you. Stack your rings whichever way you want – mix-and-match or co-ordinate. Either way your Stacking Rings will be bang on trend.

Make them jade with envy…

The annual Film Festival at Cannes is always a good place to spot the key trends for the coming summer. If there was one trend that was simply ubiquitous this year, it was the white dress and jade jewellery combo encompassing a whole spectrum of stones in the Jade colour bracket.

When a member of the Cannes jury champions a look it offi

18ct White Gold and Tsavourite Earrings by PepperPink

cially moves into trend territory. Honoured judge Uma Thurman created the most memorable version, by wearing her stunning floor-length Versace with minimal accessories, except for huge emerald chandelier earrings.

This outfit seems so simple but as with all celeb outfits, there has been a lot of thought put into the pairing of those earrings and that dress. The dress, being both very white and very fluffy, wouldn’t look out of place in the aisle of a church. However, the bright green earrings are an express statement that this is by no means a blushing bride.

Turquoise Disco Nine Pendant by PepperPink

Despite this statement, by far the most important purpose of these earrings is purely aesthetic. White can be draining at the best of times, let alone under the heady glare of a paparazzi flashbulb. The solution (as Thurman’s stylist well knows) is to wear something very bright and sparkly close to your face. So, these are not just earrings – they serve several significant purposes and prevent this from being just a good dress and a ‘safe’ look. Tsavourite is a purse-friendly alternative to emeralds, that will be provide a similar pop of colour to a faithful white dress.

Hofit Golan at Cannes 2011

If emeralds and tsavourite are a little on the ‘green’ side for you, then you might try Turquoise; its ‘bluer’ tone looks wonderful on olive skin tones. Israeli model (and ex-girlfriend of Leonardo di Carprio) Hofit Golan demonstrates this look perfectly at Cannes. Take her lead and revamp a white dress you already own with our Turquoise Disco Nine pendant for a fresh look. Perfect for balmy summer holidays abroad and accentuating that tan!

The key to this look is working out the shade of ‘jade’ that best suits your colouring. As a general rule emeralds and tsavourite look incredible on alabaster skin and turquoise highlights olive tones. However, your hair colour will also determine which shade of jade best suits you. The only way to know if a jade piece flatters you is to try it on in (gulp) the harshest lighting – shop lighting will do the trick.  Then take a look in a mirror and be honest about how you look – the right shade of jade will make you positively glow, we promise!

White and jade are the ideal colour combination to bring out the warmth of summer skin and give you that perfect holiday glow. Where are you going on holiday this summer?
